Becoming a Vascular Surgeon<\/span><\/h2>\n

Surgeon Training and education of future vascular surgeons is by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in conjunction with The Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery (ANZSVS).<\/p>\n

It is a five year Surgical Education and Training (SET) programme with year-long placements throughout both New Zealand and Australia.<\/p>\n

Aspiring future trainees are required to do some time as non-training vascular registrars (as well as registrars in other specialties) to gain experience prior to applying for SET.<\/p>\n

Many trainees will choose to embark on a fellowship year at the end of the formal SET programme prior to working as a vascular surgeon.<\/p>\n

Become a Vascular Sonographer <\/span><\/h2>\n

To become a vascular sonographer in New Zealand, you must first complete a bachelor’s degree in a related health science or medical imaging field, then complete the University of Auckland’s Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Ultrasound). While there isn’t a specific vascular-focused programme yet, this general ultrasound diploma will make you eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB).
