The Home of Vascular Specialists
in Aotearoa New Zealand

The Vascular Society of Aotearoa New Zealand brings together people and groups with a shared interest in vascular health. We’re here to support and connect the vascular community across the country.

Vascular surgery focuses on treating conditions of the arteries, veins, and lymphatic system, everything outside of the heart and brain. Our work is guided by a commitment to excellent patient care, backed by research, evidence-based medicine, and clear protocols. As a society, we also act as a voice for the vascular field, offering advice and expertise to regional, national, and government organisations.

Patient Information

Our Patient Information section is here to give you a clearer understanding of vascular surgery and the conditions that vascular surgeons treat. All of the content has been written by surgeons so you can trust the information to be accurate and reliable.

These articles focus on vascular diseases that affect the arterial circulation. Because the arteries carry blood throughout the body, almost any organ can be affected. The most common areas are the arteries in the legs (Peripheral Vascular Disease, or PVD), the aorta where aneurysms can develop, and the carotid arteries that supply blood to the brain.

This information is provided to help you learn more about these conditions, but it’s not a replacement for personal medical advice. If you have any concerns about your health, it’s important to speak directly with a qualified health professional.
